Specialisterne Ireland – Autistic Employment Services Assessment and Support Executive

Specialisterne Ireland is a specialist employment and support company for young autistic adults who wish to work in IT or similar sectors. It is currently seeking to recruit an Assessment and Support Executive working with and preparing autistic Asperger people for fulltime employment and also for student internships. This position will be in the Dublin office and will be responsible for the assessment and support of autistic candidates preparing for and in employment. The Executive will support the overall Dublin team and will oversee a case load of typically 10 autistic people actively seeking or in employment at any one time. Ultimately the Dublin office is seen as enabling and supporting 50 autistic people gain employment over a five year period. The office is currently working with 12 autistic people already in employment and 30 others at various stages of assessment. This position is to support the continuing growth of the organisation. The initial contract is for six months with the potential for this to be extended.

Specialisterne is a professional organisation providing the highest level of advice and support in line with good organisational policy and regulations. Job Purpose: The Assessment and Support Executive will be responsible for successfully identifying, assessing, placing and supporting autistic Asperger people in the age range 18 to 44 in paid


1. Experience of working with people on the autistic spectrum possibly coupled with a relevant

qualification in disability, social work, or occupational therapy.

2. Experience in providing support services to individuals with developmental disabilities

and/or Autism

3. Knowledge of the best practices in behavioural services to individuals with developmental

disabilities and/or Autism

4. Knowledge of recruitment and employment practices applying to disabled people would be

an advantage.

5. Experience of providing support to such people

6. Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to interact professionally with diverse

autistic people, families, other Specialisterne team members and other organisations.

7. Strong administrative, organizational, written and verbal communication skills


 Work with the Specialisterne team and other organisations to identify individual candidates

for whom the Specialisterne model would suit.

 Provide detailed assessment of candidates’ potential for work in the IT or other sectors. This

includes observing individuals social and technical skills, discussing your observations with

your colleagues and with the candidates themselves, recommending developmental plans to

enable candidates reach their potential in terms of employment, monitoring progress and

providing further advice as needed and completing appropriate paperwork.

 In cooperation with candidates to create achievable employment development goals and

monitor progress towards those goals.

 Provide support for families by attending meetings or other conferences.

 Conduct assessments and make referrals to other organisations or professionals to ensure

individuals receiving services are receiving the best advice.

 Provide consultation and training to potential employers
